Coach Osborne Speaks!
Coach Osborne gave his annual TeamMates sermon at St. Mark’s United Methodist church in Lincoln on Sunday January 25th. Standing and delivering two sermons over the span of 3 hours is no small task for anyone, let alone someone nearing 90 years! Coach gave a moving and inspirational account of the servant heart of one of our all-time favorite Huskers, Brook Berringer. He related Brook’s example to a call to action to each of us to discover God’s call upon our own lives toward service. Each year coach delivers a sermon on TeamMates Sunday at St. Mark’s to not only inspire the congregation, but to aid in the recruitment of new mentors to serve the long list of kids on waiting lists to receive a mentor. Coach was kind enough to mention in his sermon his support for None Til One and the importance of Sunday mornings being left open for faith and family time. Coach has lent his voice to None Til One television commercials and has allowed quotes to be printed in None Til One leaflets: “My background is sports, I’m certainly in favor of sports, but the idea you need to play organized youth sports on Sunday mornings in order to be successful is erroneous. That time would be better spent in church or Sunday school and give you a better chance at success in life.” Tom Osborne.
